What is RDP?
Remote Desktop Protocol, or RDP for short, is the underlying protocol used in Microsoftâs Remote Desktop Services (RDS). It is built-in on most versions of Windows PC or Windows Server operating systems. You can connect to a remote computer or VM using RDP, and use it like a local desktop. What's the difference between RDP and VPN?
Hereâs the difference between RDP and VPN: Remote Desktop Connection, as the name appears, gives you the ability to access applications and files on any device and at any time over any type of connection. RDP gives you full access to network resources, line-of-business, and databases. However, VPN does not offer any of these, and requires very high bandwidth networks. If you lack bandwidth-intensive data, no databases, limited printing and scanning requirements then VPN would be a good solution for you.
